Rubenstein Pianos

About the R-371

At Rubenstein Pianos, our goal is to produce exclusive, one-of-a-kind instruments on a limited basis for a few discerning clients. While most manufacturers customize around a given scale and case, our unique manufacturing process allows us to not only offer different cases and decoration, but unique scales as well, tailored to meet the tonal and aesthetic requirements of the individual.

In 2000, cabinet maker and metal worker David Rubenstein designed the R371, a 12' 2" 371 cm concert grand piano, around a scale specially commissioned from Delwin Fandrich

Four years in the making, this unique instrument made its debut at the 2006 California State Convention of the Piano Technicians Guild, to great acclaim, despite much initial skepticism.

One of the unusual features of this instrument is its welded steel plate, which avoids the vibrational damping associated with cast iron, and results in greater sustain and clarity, and a more ringing treble.
